Today's Agenda: Sitting at my desk and getting s*?! done! Can we say "tax prep"?? Let's hope so.
Last week I ran across this little gadget from The Conran Shop.
I usually just go around dreaming about what I could buy at The Conran Shop and thinking how lovely everything looks. Well, just looking is no more. They have a new line of well-priced, well-designed items in their "Well Considered" line.
This lovely red Compact Dishrack is well-priced at $36, especially for something that looks so nice, is the perfect size and can be used for more than just dishes. It would look great next to the sink, ready to load with plates from dinner. (To deal with that pesky water issue, just put one of these mats that come in aesthetically pleasing colors underneath while you are doing the dishes. It dries quickly and is easy to store once done.)
Or, how about on your desk, perfect for bills.
Or, as a place for photographs or postcards from recent trips. (Oh, how I want to go back to printing photos out!)
Or, as a file station. With these pretty file folders. That would definitely make be do my taxes faster :)
They have lots of other great pieces in their Well Considered line -- check it out!

Nothing Like New York
Today's Agenda: Resting up from a busy couple of weeks. That involved drinking coffee while answering emails while watching a romantic comedy in my super comfy navy wingback leather chair. I'm just going to call that a perfect morning, and perfect antidote to a hectic couple weeks. Now, back to work.
Looking back through my Iphone pics to see what pieces of furniture I was loving from my recent NYC trip. Here's a glimpse of my weekend in photos. It was fun! And, includes a couple "before" pics from a new project :)
{Photos from top to bottom: Madeline Weinrib lives with Valentino in the West Village; lovely Anthropologie delights in Chelsea Market; before photos of a new project; fun styling idea at CB2; Louboutins on an early Sunday morning; fantastic finds @ Apartment 48; the compact dishrack @ The Conran Shop that I am coveting; yumminess @ the ABC Carpet sale}

Rockstar Rugs
Today's Agenda: Scrolling through rug options for clients -- there are so many! But you can usually cull through them and sort by (1) size and (2) durability and then go from there and then find there are not so many great options out of ALL of the rugs in the world...
This one made me stop and check it out -- have you seen anything like this before?? So cute in a kids room or girls' playroom. And pink but rockstar pink. Awesome.
And this one made me smile.
Okay, back to looking for rugs for actual projects...:)

Loving This Room!
Today's Agenda: Loving the day!
And, LOVING this room! You know about my love for navy. I've been working on a design with colors similar to this and I just love the mix of patterns and colors, comfort but richness, elegant but simple. Yum.

Scrolling for Photos
Today's Agenda: Thinking a lot about how best to display photos for a couple of ongoing client projects. There are a TON of different ways to do this, right??
I ran across this photo holder at Pier One recently. Pier One is one of those stores that you can really find some awesome pieces in -- they may not look exactly right in the store but take them home and they can be the home run you were looking for. Without hurting your wallet too. Here's a photo of the holder. It's pretty unassuming, a little froo-frooy (a word??) and has the potential to be gimmicky. And...only $9.99!
I decided to give it a chance and bought it recently for a project I was working on. My client had boxes filled with great photos that you only wished you had and might buy at a flea market they were so great!! I hated for them to just sit in a box so was able to make them a part of this room.
I also liked the idea of being able to change out photos easily. Or pop in postcards or ticket stubs. This way creating a nice mix of memories, especially in a space where you don't have a ton of space to do frames (and they had a wall of photos just outside this room so I didn't want to repeat that). I also like the size of the photo holder. Not too big, not too small. And would be hung horizontally or vertically.
Want to see a few pictures of these photo holders in their home?
Here are a few tips for making this type of holder work in a room:
1. Stuff Them: Here's your chance to layer lots and lots of pictures in these. First of all, they stay better when there are a few pictures in each little holder thing. Second, the layered look fills them out and invites you to take a closer look.
2. Pick a Theme: I used mostly "older" looking photographs in these holders instead of "newer" ones. By picking a theme -- "older" photographs, photographs of just kids, photographs of just buildings, etc. you are creating a collection and give the display more richness and it looks more complete and not so random. You could even use ticket stubs or postcards from your favorite art museum.
3. Hang at the Right Level: Have you ever noticed how some pictures or art is just hung too high? It's important to hang the frame, holder, etc. at the right height. I like to hang items close to whatever piece of furniture is nearby. In this room, I hung the holders close to the couch so that when you are sitting on this couch, you can look over and appreciate some of the photographs. You might even see a different one you hadn't noticed in awhile! I think it makes the room seem cozier to hang photos this way.
Curious about the before?
Pretty fun, transformation :)
You know what's even better? The deals scored in this room! The couch was originally $3400 and purchased for just $1100 -- it has a down cushion and is in pristine condition and sooo comfy -- and the ottoman was just $150 from Marshalls -- perfect for storing all of the extra photos we didn't use and a place to pop your feet on or with the trays on top to set a drink!

Something for Free
Today's Agenda: Cleaning up the website a bit. Thinking about using lots of color in a new project. Just a normal day here in VA.
The other day though was NOT a normal day. Nope. Because guess what I found with a "free" sign on it in the building's storage space??
THIS!
It is in perfect condition and beautiful. I have no immediate use for it but lots of imaginary ones!
Let's look at it again, it's so pretty.
It would be pretty in a little girl's room.
Maybe with these items?
For now, it's resting in my hallway :)

Today's Agenda: Put the finishing touches on staging a condo that will go on the market this weekend. Excited for the results and hope that a good offer comes their way! Fingers crossed!
Always fun to finish out the week with some good before and afters -- take a look! Happy weekend.
Just a few fun changes to make this loft look like the amazing space that it is!!

Friday's Organizing Item
Today's Agenda: Brainstorming ideas for a new project! So many possibilities...
This morning I started thumbing through the latest issue of House Beautiful. My system for reading magazines is to scan through the entire magazine in one sitting. Then go back a day later and start poring over every page, tabbing things and photocopying ideas I like and putting them in client files for inspiration.
Well, I haven't got past page 22 -- had to check out these colorful bins!

(much better photo on the Conran UK site!)
They are small -- only 12 inches tall but so cute! How cute on a white bookshelf in a kids room with a few of each color (red, blue, yellow, green) for toys and books. Even in a closet to organize socks and shoes. Or a laundry room to organize kids dirty clothes?
