Today's Agenda: Browse some yard sales on Craigslist, and check out what's in today's Craigslist furniture + antiques categories. (See some fun Craigslist finds here.)
I do love a good yard sale -- all the possibilities to find a great treasure! {Definitely high likelihood for, let's just say, less than treasureworthy items too...}. I remember finding a great desk for my college apartment that I sanded down myself and painted white. And my cute little Renoir print I found for $1.
I would love to be in Austin this weekend to go to this yard sale.

Two weeks ago my Mom and I had a yard sale in Raleigh (see above pics) -- I was mostly curious how it would be to set up, who would come, what would sell, would it be worth it. It was a pretty cool (for lack of a better word) experience . Verdict = I would do it again, with some tweaks (and on a cooler day!).
Here's what we did:
We held it on a Sunday from 10 - 2 (to catch the after church crowd)
Posted signs the day of (bright orange signs!) on the closest main roads (we got a majority of people from these, I think)
Posted an ad on Craigslist and on the local paper's online site
Used stickers and holepunched tags for each item + stamped in different colors (one for my mom's stuff, one for my stuff, one for my mother-in-law's stuff) with some cute vintage designs (people did like these, which made me happy)
If we did it again, I would have:
Posted in the local paper's hard copy and online a couple day's earlier
Posted signs at Starbucks or other stores close by
Held it on a Saturday vs Sunday
Had card tables we weren't selling to put stuff on (when we sold the bookshelves we had to take everything off!)
Had more clothes to sell -- lot's of people bought clothes which I wouldn't have even thought of!
Had a box or bin with $1 items, one with $.50 items, one with free items
It was a great excuse though for cleaning out the house + garage. Afterwards we immediately loaded up the car with items that didn't sell that we were fine donating and went to Goodwill. Then sat in a cold movie theatre with popcorn and a refreshing diet coke to relax for a bit...
I love the tags! Sooo cute!
ReplyDeletevery cute tags!! and is that peppy's (sp?) cage you sold?
ReplyDeleteGreat yard sale advice! We are having one in a few weeks and I will definitely use some of your tips! I have tons of clothes (sadly, a lot of them are from high school) and I was planning on doing a couple 50 cent bins. I will just have to find some card tables b/c I was planning on using shelves we were going to sell too :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, T -- it was super fun to make the tags :) Not Pepe's cage but Critter's cage -- do you remember Critter? Pepe is pretty hard to forget...
ReplyDeleteLinda -- Good luck with the yard sale! Hopefully the weather will be really nice -- I think that makes such a difference. Let me know how it goes!
