My usual search "just to see what is out there" involves "loft". Which can mean a place with an actual loft (perfect for office space), "loft-style" (I'm not sure what this really means; sometimes just means a couple exposed pipes) or just lots of light. Or none of the above and just a buzzword to get someone like me to look at the listing.
I found this one today on Craigslist. It's $1850 for 2BR in Fells Point near Baltimore (which is not really convenient for us) but as the ad says...may be worth the commute. I'm actually curious to see what it looks like and what they did to it. It's a converted church. I'm not sure if that would be creepy or cool.
Here's the description, and a few pictures they had online.
Luxury apartment built in historic Church building several blocks from the water front. You can walk to the entertainment districts of historic Baltimore and commute to DC.... it is worth it! This apartment has a master bedroom suite built on the choir loft, with an oversize whirlpool tub, separate double size shower, it boasts a two level tower, one level over looking the inside of the house (30' above the living room), one level with a 360 degree view of the city skyline, including the water, a roof top deck stretches out from the tower, you enter the church house through an iron gate into a front courtyard area of this historic landmark. The apartment has its very own laundry and room, tons of storage, the second bedroom has its own bathroom and the downstairs has a half bath for guests. Hardwood floors, wall to wall carpet in bedrooms, ceiling fans. All this and you are sure to go to church on Sunday because you will wake up in one. No pets please, one month security deposit (not to be used as last months rent), rental application required, credit history will be checked. Make the time to see this place... it is dreamy. One other apartment in the building has just come available and is $1350 for a 2 bed, 1 1/2 bath apartment. Both apartments pay there own gas and electric.
